Our relationship with Make-A-Wish Minnesota goes back a ways, and we’ve always enjoyed working together to make wishes come true.
Lately, we couldn’t help but feel like we could do more, so we’ve recently announced a generous philanthropic contribution to Make-A-Wish Minnesota which will help make even more wishes come true for Minnesota children. Over the next three years, we have committed to donate travel costs for wish kids traveling anywhere Sun Country flies. This gift carries a monetary value of $720,000 and will be instrumental in helping Make-A-Wish Minnesota grant travel wishes of Minnesota kids such as four-year-old Brooklyn suffering from a critical illness.
Brooklyn was two years old when tests revealed the devastating diagnosis of leukemia. She endured the overwhelming side effects of chemotherapy and the countless hours of physical therapy as she re-learned how to crawl, stand and walk. Along with her family, Brooklyn recently boarded a Sun Country plane for her wish trip to Walt Disney World® Resort where she could meet all her favorite princesses. “This trip was a huge release of stress and fear,” her mother Michelle said. “It was a celebration of strength, determination, bravery, and positivity. This was the beginning of being a kid again.”
“It’s truly a special experience to be a part of making a wish come true. Sun Country team members are passionate about Make-A-Wish Minnesota, and we felt we could do even more to help families,” said Jude Bricker, President and CEO of Sun Country Airlines, “The Twin Cities community is our home – the home of our headquarters, our employees, and many of our guests. It’s important that we invest in it, help keep it strong, and contribute to a healthy community for our business and our employees. Our partnership with Make-A-Wish Minnesota helps us do that.”
“Corporate support like this is crucial to Make-A-Wish Minnesota. Every dollar not needed for airfare for a wish is a dollar we can put toward another child’s wish. While we fulfilled almost 300 wishes this past year, there are still an equal number of kids waiting for their wish, said Mia Broos Hoagberg, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish Minnesota. “Our mission is to fulfill the wish of every eligible child in Minnesota and Sun Country’s generous support gets us closer to making that a reality.”
In addition to its rewards point donation, Sun Country Airlines will also continue to host “Flight to the North Pole” each December, an event where more than 70 wish kids board a Sun Country flight to visit the North Pole. Sun Country Airlines looks forward to continuing this tradition with Minnesota wish kids.
Taylor is part of the Communications Team at Sun Country Airlines. What she loves most? Sun Country’s love of all things Minnesota and the airline’s focus on making everyone – from crew to passengers – feel right at home. If she were hopping on a flight tomorrow, she’d be headed west to Portland or south to Puerto Vallarta.
