Last week, we spent a few days putting our hangar together for a very special event. For the second year in a row, we hosted A Night to Matter Gala, an incredible event that raises money for access to health around the world. The hangar was set up for guests two days beforehand, and we rolled out the red carpet and built a giant stage to accompany the live auction and celebration.
The local nonprofit, Matter, is a movement of people, businesses, and organizations who believe they have the power to solve some of the world’s greatest challenges with the inner workings of community and personal efforts. One of the biggest challenges Matter (and the world) faces today is lack of access to health for all humankind. That’s why the organization strives to create a world to offer a full and healthy life to all. We have always been honored and humbled to work with them, especially on an evening like A Night to Matter.
The hangar was decked from generous local vendors: Manny’s Steakhouse, Chino Latino, Good Earth, Tattersall Distilling, Shake Shack, Famous Dave’s, Warehouse Winery, and more. Craft Your Community even designed unique and beautiful beer growlers for purchase that gave back to hurricane relief. Even more amazing, Matter placed two of its hospital containers within the hangar so attendees could walk through and tour them. Essentially, medical supplies are sourced, allocated, and shipped into countries with a lack of healthcare and these giant containers (fully functioning hospital rooms) are placed safely, with the medical equipment, in the receiving countries’ ports to utilize where needed. A little backstory: since 2000, Matter has worked in 63 countries around the globe to help outfit hospitals and clinics. It was incredible to walk through them and truly see and touch the impact Matter and our community has made throughout the years.
The red carpet ushered guests in to enjoy a night of giving back and the evening started with learning more about Matter, sipping cocktails, mingling, and enjoying the tarmac view of planes jet-setting out of Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Don Felder took to the stage after the live auction, rocking out into the night. Minnesota Viking Xavier Rhodes took to the stage to speak and show his support for the cause and Muffy MacMillan was awarded Matter’s 2017 Humanitarian Award. Before the auction, Nimo and Hassan Ahmed were awarded the 2017 Impact Award and the crowd shared its praises for the inspiring speeches. Over 500 celebrities and donor guests took to the celebratory auction to help the lives impacted by Matter’s work.
And help, they did. 1.25 million dollars was raised during the beautiful night – an incredible gesture to those in need. Do you want to get involved? You certainly can, here. By donating finances, goods, or services, there are many ways to give back to the community and around the world through Matter. In fact, we carry MATTERblend coffee on our planes so we can best give back. For every cup of coffee served inflight, 50% of the profits are donated to further Matter’s mission.
We were so honored to host the event for another year and encourage you to learn how to help as well.
