Family and friends, we’re so delightfully glad,
to have you on board – good times are ought to be had!
Now, please buckle your seatbelts, Santa will come,
to welcome us at the North Pole, Pah-rump papa-rum!
With happy elves and good food, and good carols to hear,
This plane is absolutely full of good cheer!
So, let’s hear it for the Flight to the North Pole, our favorite time of the year.
Shall we start with a holiday song to get the plane in gear?
Soon, Santa will be dashing through the snow with all of his reindeer.
Will you wave out the window when he passes by?
Santa does love it when we give him a jolly “hi!”
He’ll reply with “ho, ho, ho!”
That’s just what Santa does, in the meantime, to the North Pole we go!
We love flying people to warm destinations like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Orlando (among many more), but our favorite time of the year is flying to the North Pole. That’s right! For the past decade, we’ve been creating a magical Flight to the North for children and this year we partnered with Make-A-Wish® Minnesota.
On December 13th, kids ages 5-12 joined us at Terminal 2 of the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport to board the plane for a very enchanting “flight” to see Santa. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by a waving Sun Country crew of flight attendants and pilots. We could tell they were nervous and in awe of the busy airport, but most smiled and waved back our way. After receiving their boarding passes (we’re always finding all the ways make that “flight” official), children were welcomed with Christmas carolers and an opportunity to write letters to Santa. And many they wrote! We saw a lot of bicycles and smiles on their lists (it’s true, the children wanted smiles for Christmas). And that could be the sweetest thing we’ve seen in a long time. Once boarded on the plane with jolly elves as flight attendants, holiday songs were sung and we were finally North Pole bound. Mrs. Claus herself even stopped to say “hi” with Santa’s reindeer! Who says you can’t turn a de-icing truck into a festive sleigh?
Meanwhile, back at the airport, our crew worked to bedazzle the terminal with all things North Pole. Santa and all of his gifts arrived, Christmas trees were decked with bulbs and ornaments, and a local choir warmed up and stood near the gate to welcome the children. When the plane officially “landed,” all eagerly anticipated the arrival with red cheeks and camera phones. Watching the children’s faces walking through the jetway was so incredibly heartwarming, it was hard to hold back tears of joy. Sunny (and his friends Crunch, Cambi, and Goldy) greeted them with high fives and smiles. It is times like these that soaking in the holidays feels truly meaningful for us.
Watch the video, to revel in the magic.
